Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Data Analyst. This position will provide reporting, data analysis and forecasting for academic space planning and scheduling. This is a key role in the success of Stanford Classrooms Reimagined, the 10-year strategic plan for learning spaces campus-wide.

This position will initially support two teams within the division of Student Affairs: Learning Technologies and Spaces (LTS) and Curriculum Management and Scheduling (CMS). This position works on a high-performing, cross-functional team of experts ranging from curriculum management and scheduling, to audio visual technologies, learning space design, project and operations management.

LTS and CMS are part of Student Affairs, which supports a variety of student experiences inside our learning spaces and outside the classroom in our residences, community centers, student organizations, health center, and career education center. About CMS:
The Curriculum Management and Scheduling team within the Registrar's Office is responsible for maintaining the integrity of information about over 300 programs, nearly 20,000 active courses, scheduling 29,000 class sections per quarter, managing nearly 200 classroom and other event spaces, with over 8,000 events being scheduled yearly into the spaces that we manage.

Learning Technologies & Spaces (LTS) facilitates exceptional teaching and learning. We design, implement, provision, operate, and support an ecosystem of platforms, tools, services, and technology-rich classrooms and learning spaces. Our aim is to provide great experiences for faculty and students in the use of instructional technology and classrooms to create engaging and accessible learning experiences for all our students.


About the Position:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Learning Spaces, the Senior Data Analyst will help shape strategic campus learning space design and planning and inform how we use classroom and learning spaces across the Stanford campus. This position works very closely with both the LTS and CMS teams, contributing experience and expertise in all facets of learning space design and scheduling as well as classroom information system development and use, database integrity, reporting, and data analysis. The Senior Data Analyst will leverage a range of data sources, quantitative and qualitative methods, and technical tools in independent and collaborative projects ranging from improving routine reporting to deep dives into specific questions.

Your responsibilities include:

Data Analysis and Reporting

Foster a continuous-improvement and insight-driven environment that supports Stanford's instructional mission:

Ensure decision-makers across the University have well-curated, consistent, transparent, high-quality data assets and reporting.
Produce highly polished, audience-appropriate deliverables (e.g., tables, charts, interactive dashboards, narrative reports) for division leadership, other school and university audiences, and external agencies as applicable.
Build, implement, and manage classroom and learning space data infrastructure and program
Support the development and implementation of KPI's and dashboards across data sources.
Identify patterns, trends, and other insights in datasets using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques.
Serve as a resource for inquiries about data and reporting across a wide range of functional areas.


Data Management, Database Design and Performance Tuning

Identify relevant data sources; creating and maintaining datasets for analysis; recommending and implementing new processes around data collection, management, reporting, and analysis as needed.
Establish and integrate systems for maximizing the efficiency and accuracy of reporting, monitoring data integrity, facilitating integrations across data sources, and documenting processes.
Collaborate with technical staff and end users to standardize, systematize, and automate routine reports, dashboards, and metrics, as well as with partners throughout the university on the development of shared or central solutions as appropriate.
Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of databases.
Develop algorithms and statistical models; and perform statistical analyses appropriate to complex data and reporting requirements.


Leading Projects

Meet with campus partners to understand problems that would benefit by leveraging of university data
Requirements gathering. Scoping and defining projects and data and metadata sets to meet reporting needs
Apply security best practices. Other duties as assigned

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.
Ability to design, create, refine meaningful research questions, datasets, analyses, and reports.
Strong ability to evaluate data quality, and to identify appropriate methods for working with imperfect data sources.
Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.
In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.
Expert ability to collect, clean, manage, analyze, visualize data using a variety of methods.
Basic statistical ability.
Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.
Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.


In addition, our preferred requirements include:

Experience with reporting, analytical, and visualization tools such as Tableau, SAS, OBIEE, SQL, R, Python, or similar.
Experience in a social science discipline, e.g., sociology, anthropology, linguistics, psychology, especially when this includes a quantitative component.
Experience in integrating data sources and systems
Experience working in higher education, including familiarity with data, systems, business processes, space planning, or in a relevant functional area.
Familiarity with institutional research, assessment, program evaluation, or business intelligence.
Experience serving in a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.
Conversant with space planning, teaching.


Physical Requirements:

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders and use a telephone.


Working Conditions:

May work extended hours during peak business cycles.
