Inspire Awesome with Eastern Washington University! We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Windows System Administrator (ITS 4)


This position, Windows Systems Administrator, is responsible for supporting Windows Server based systems at Eastern Washington University. This person will be a member of a dynamic team of system administrators who are responsible for senior level design, implementation and support of a Windows based server environment. Duties will involve design, documentation, hands on installation of new equipment and applications, enhancing and streamlining existing applications, replacing and restructuring of legacy systems, as well as providing quality assurance. Utilizing established work methods and innovative approaches, this position will apply technical systems understanding to evaluate and resolve complex tasks for the Office of Information Technology. This environment relies heavily upon virtualization technologies. Overall this position will be responsible for Windows Server system administration, quality assurance, developing and enhancing existing critical support systems and servers, integrating these technologies with business needs, maintenance and complex troubleshooting of the EWU technology environment with a focus on Microsoft technologies that include Azure, Office 365 and Active Directory infrastructure.

Conditions of Employment

Ability to lift 15 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Required Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree in an information technology discipline or equivalent work related experience.

  • Three or more years of experience with the following technologies:

    • Server virtualization

    • PowerShell scripting that include automation tasks

    • Azure

    • Office 365

    • Active Directory to include Group Policy tasks



  • Experience working in enterprise environments with systems supporting over 500 users.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.



  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Solutions Associate (MCSA) in one or more of the following:

    • Office 365

    • Cloud Platform

    • Windows Server 2012



  • Three or more years of experience with Hyper-V

  • Five or more years of experience with PowerShell with a focus on automation

  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange and/or SMTP services




Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated abilities in each of the following areas:

    • Working independently and as a team.

    • Prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

    • Effectively communicate in both spoken and written form to diverse constituencies, both technical and non-technical.



  • Ability to comply with all University policies and standards
