Job Description Summary:
Reporting to the Digital Content Manager, this position serves as a member of the Global Marketing and Communications (GMC) web team providing highly complex programming, reporting, integration and analytical services as part of implementation of integrated marketing and communications strategies. This person uses their knowledge of web technologies, design, presentation techniques, and web programming languages to collaborate with staff and faculty in the creation and maintenance of high quality web services that support the needs of the University and GMC. The person in this position is responsible for designing, coding and modifying websites, from layout to function and according to the specifications of managers in GMC. This person strives to create visually appealing sites and harness their creative energy; sites that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation to strengthen search engine optimization. This position supports University blogs and other non-CX web services such as Webster Works Worldwide. Duties include:

  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Webster University website, home page and attendant sites, and help conceive and develop web content for these sites.

  • Adhere to the quality standards set by the University's digital team and GMC.

  • Foster a consistent understanding among faculty and staff to ensure digital marketing and communications meet University branding and messaging standards.

  • Measure the effectiveness of content, messaging and other strategies in achieving the University's marketing and communications goals.

  • Monitor and explore new and emerging technologies and technology applications; provide recommendations to the Digital Content Manager, the CCO, and GMC directors regarding these new technologies and applications.

  • Collaborate with content experts, graphic designers, programmer/analysts and information architects to design, develop, enable, and enhance web-based solutions.

  • Install, manage, integrate and customize third party solutions to meet University requirements.

  • Code web pages utilizing CSS and XHTML and programming languages including JavaScript, SQL, PHP, CakePHP and JQuery.

  • Interact with servers using SSH, FTP, SFTP and other protocols.

  • Work with various database systems including MySQL and SQL Server and frameworks including ADO and ODBC.

  • Analyze, review and modify web systems by designing, maintaining, documenting, testing, developing and monitoring.

  • Create APIs as necessary to integrate University data with the primary website and ancillary sites as needed.


    Minimum Qualifications
    Two years of professional experience creating standards-compliant websites using XHTML, and CSS, PHP, SQL/MySQL, and other programming languages.

    Bachelors degree in information technology, communications, marketing or related field.

    Two years of experience with interactive marketing, communications and/or information technology including a solid understanding of search engine optimization and search engine marketing.

    Ability to successfully communicate technology concepts to colleagues with varied knowledge and skills.

    Ability to evaluate non-technical users needs of technology systems (such as CMS).

    Experience in OmniUpdate or other related content management system.

    Experience in WordPress development, customization and administration.

    Understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards.

    Ability to proactively identify opportunities to improve website and digital marketing efforts through the use of new technology.

    Understanding of usability, information design, and ADA Section 508 Accessibility best practices.

    Ability to multitask with strong time management and organizational skills.


    Preferred Qualifications
    Five years of professional experience preferred.

    Previous relevant experience in higher education environment preferred.
