RITs Marketing and Communications Division (M&C) is the provider of integrated marketing and communications assets for the university. The University Production Services Team within M&C provides video and event support for our university partners.



Detailed Job Description

The Video Network Systems Engineer (Network Engineer) is within University Production Services, Engineering and Events. The position is based around the day to day administration and support of our next generation IT network and systems related to our live/post audio/video production, archiving, and real time media transport, along with traditional business services. The network is the backbone to our on-air and live production/event operations. Secondary roles include project management of our network/infrastructure expansions and engineering support for live events/broadcasts as a team member of the engineering staff. This position is part of our Network and IT Systems team within our growing organization. The expectation is that night and weekend work will be required, especially during broadcasts and campus special events.

The Network Engineer is responsible for the administration and oversight of the department's Editing/Captioning control surfaces, Graphics workstations, Production Storage Systems, Archiving Systems, Streaming Systems, and Networked Video Production Systems. A variety of hardware and software solutions comprises these systems, including physical, virtual, and cloud based entities, which enable the department's day-to-day business.

He/she will resolve issues, perform upgrades, and integrate innovative services to provide improved operational workflows. The Network Engineer will coordinate preventative equipment maintenance, functionality, quality testing guidelines, system diagnostics, security administration and upgrades. This includes the support of both network production equipment and IT infrastructure. Develop and monitor quality control practices.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team to recommend and implement changes to IT infrastructure, production systems, and configurations. Determine hardware and software requirements related to such changes. She/he will oversee installation of said systems.

The Network Engineer will serve as EIC/Support Engineer for multimedia events, including planning requirements, facility and equipment layouts. He/she will oversee engineers and technicians, install, test operation, and removal of all production event support technology equipment for production. The position works as liaison between RIT Production Service and technical/facilities personnel. The Network Engineer will oversee and resolve technical problems as quickly as possible to provide a seamless program/event.

This position assists with mentoring and supervision of coop students, engineering/ production assistants, student IT administrators, and contract engineering staff.





Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years directly related to IT and Networking administration experience required.
  • Solid IT background and understanding of networking infrastructure along with server and desktop administration.
  • Proficiency in Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge in television/event production (studio, post production, and/or TV engineering).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to thoroughly research problems and implement their solutions
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Team skills many tasks require the interaction with co-workers
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service/consultant skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to service as a fundamental priority



Preferred Qualifications
3+ years directly related TV and/or Video/Audio event experience preferred. Preferred Bachelors degree in ME/EE/CE/IT/Television Production or other related technical field. Expertise in video and audio streaming/transport Studio and remote production experience with single and multiple camera productions. Experience with digital backbone support of Adobe, Avid, and Apple editing environments. Project Management experience and exposure in running multi-tiered projects. Television, Production, Live event, theater experience preferred.
