Systems Software Developer

Description

The Electronic Research Administration (ERA) Systems Software Developer, reporting to the ERA Director/Project Manager, is responsible for working with the ERA team to design, build and support business applications within the Office of the Vice President for Research.

The position requires a solid background in Oracle PL/SQL, Javascript, web-based development and software integrations, for instance using JSON, XML, REST API's for data interoperability. In addition, the developer will support technical project management on specific projects.

Essential Functions of Position:
  • Participate in installing purchased systems, programming in-house applications, integrating and testing applications, and if required, diagnosing production problems.
  • Undertake custom application development using various languages & tools to support and enhance ERA and supported systems.
  • Contributes to projects to ensure goals and objectives are completed on time.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment and individually.
  • Works closely with the Director, Technical manager and other technical units to maintain systems, facilitate upgrades, and ensure optimal deployment with respect to security and performance.
  • Works collaboratively with technical and functional leads and administrative offices to develop specifications and time-lines for projects, and provide technical and functional documentation.
  • Supports the ERA team and OVPR office in the creation of reports from transactional databases.
  • Develop and modify technical documentation to support operations and training.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree Computer Science and at least three years of experience working in a developer role or a combination of education and relevant experience.

    Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, or commensurate experience
  • Web front-end development skills such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSP, JSON, or commensurate experience.
  • Experience with JQuery/AJAX is a plus.

    Preferred:
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and programming tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
  • Strong understanding of data design, architecture, relational databases, and data modeling.
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of software development life cycle, methodologies, and quality control practices.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading activities on structured team development projects.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.

    This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
