The Systems Administrator is responsible for administering, planning, configuring, installing and engineering solutions for Linux and Windows servers, Linux systems, and telecommunication systems. Responds to escalated systems alerts, investigates and recovers hardware/software failures, responsible for the identification and resolution of service-level problems, the identification and support of mission-critical tasks, and the education of other support and operations personnel.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

1. Installs, configures, and manages Linux servers to ensure reliable, secure, and cost-effective delivery of services. Responsible for management of Linux servers, including OS installation, application configuration, security configuration, backups, and server decommissioning. Assists the Windows Server Administrator as necessary, helping to manage, patch, deploy, and troubleshoot Windows systems.
2. Evaluates, tests and deploys software and hardware upgrades to the server infrastructure. Applies Linux and Windows OS and application patches as necessary.
3. Helps identify and resolve all hardware and software technical problems that impact production services. Keeps affected clients informed as to the status of the problem until resolution. Will require after-hours or weekend work.
4. Responds to helpdesk tickets in a timely and professional manner.
5. Maintains documentation to improve reliability and reduce time to troubleshoot issues. Keeps documentation up-to-date.
6. Supports miscellaneous applications necessary for the operations of the College.
7. Monitors monitoring system and backup.
8. Communicates system changes and outages with user services and the helpdesk so that incidents and changes can be handled proactively.
9. Individual will be on call in case any critical issues arise with the server infrastructure in production.
10. Other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

BA or BS degree in a related field of study OR five to seven years of experience; Experience with Red Hat Linux v5/v6/v7 servers in an enterprise environment; Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2016 in an enterprise environment; Experience with server virtualization, preferably VM ware; Experience with enterprise systems management and monitoring tools; Ability to work independently and as a member of a team; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and project deliverables; Ability to lift 60 lbs.
