Position Description


Reporting to the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) Registrar and Director of Student Enrollment Systems, the Student Enrollment Systems Project Director "Project Director" plans, conducts, and supervises the completion of complex information technology projects in Enrollment Services, requiring high levels of cross-functional integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed. May manage several projects and/or programs simultaneously. The Project Director is service-oriented and is expected to incorporate the principles of Inclusive Excellence and Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging best practices to ensure a service approach that reflects cultural competency.

As Project Director, your core duties are:


  • Effective staff management, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment

  • Assembling and leading a project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project, and resolving team issues

  • Looking across portfolio of projects and identifying issues and dependencies

  • Project discovery

  • Serving as expert regarding scope and project objectives, solution's value and technology, as well as the role and function of each team member

  • Ensuring work completion within schedule, budgetary and design constraints

  • Making decisions about analysis, design and testing; solving complex technical problems; and, when necessary, providing alternative methods for achieving goals

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to leverage resources for successful project completion

  • Leveraging steering and executive committees for decision-making, change management, and communications

  • Serving as primary contact with user groups and stakeholders

  • Advising Enrollment Services regarding post project operations

  • Acting as an advisor to department managers and staff on data and systems policies

  • Applying Harvard University's IT technical standards and best practices

  • Abiding by and following the Harvard University IT Code of Conduct


Additional Duties:

  • Providing business analyst support for the HKS Student Information System, my.Harvard and backup support for HKS admissions and financial aid systems

  • Providing technical support for the HKS Loan Repayment Assistance Program application

  • Providing Enrollment Services leadership with daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and ad hoc reports for admissions and financial aid, registrar, and enrollment services data analysis

  • Monitoring and responding to Enrollment Services technical support email box

  • Serving as a member of the HKS Data Stewardship Group and HKS IT Affinity Group

Basic Qualifications


  • Minimum of five years' experience post-secondary education or relevant work experience

  • Supervisory Experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills

  • Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipment

  • Knowledge of advanced IT project management principles (e.g. Agile) and software

  • Experience with products by CollegeBoard, Technolutions, and PeopleSoft is a plus

  • Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience

  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor

  • Attitude that supports an Agile working environment

  • Ability to uphold FERPA and other data privacy regulations and standards



Certificates and Licenses


  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy Project Management Foundations course (or external equivalent) preferred

  • PMP or other relevant certification and experience preferred, e.g., Scrum Master
