Splunk Systems Administrator
The Web Applications Team in Infrastructure, a unit of Penn State IT, is looking for a highly motivated and technically strong systems administrator with a passion for providing professional customer service and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will work as a member of our Web Applications Team in support of the University-wide Splunk (Log collecting & analysis system) service.
Responsibilities include:
This service directly supports cybersecurity analysts, IT departments, Business Intelligence, Operations Center, Research Community, and other business units. The infrastructure is distributed across Penn State data centers and supports the daily ingest of 3+ TB of data from over 13,000 client systems ranging from on-prem and cloud infrastructures. The service has a multi-site index tier and 9 search heads.

This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4 systems administrator, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
The location of this position is flexible and can operate fully remote within the United States, fully in-person at our University Park Campus, or in a hybrid model of both in-person and remote. Standard working hours are in the eastern time zone.
Please note that the 7x24x365 availability of campus technology services may require work outside regular work hours to solve operational problems or ensure proper functioning of services. A standard maintenance window is followed.
