Job Description
Description:
  • This position is responsible for developing and supporting software development-based initiatives of the LSUASC Program, particularly command and control systems.
  • Position will require algorithm development and implementation skills specifically in the realm of detect-and-avoid (DAA) technologies.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop software and systems including Unmanned Traffic Management, Live Virtual Constructive, and High-Level Architecture research (UTM, LVC, HLA). Work may also include development of partially autonomous to fully autonomous UAS flight software.
  • Develop systems related to package delivery automation utilizing UAS. These systems would manage all aspects of delivery from takeoff to landing and everything in between.
  • Ensure databases, applications, and procedures are up-to-date and documentation is current. Help in the development of written proposals for work involving software systems in the UAS field.
  • Assist with maintaining LSUASC computer systems and applications availability by monitoring, identifying, diagnosing, and backing up as needed to ensure ongoing operational availability. Manage servers and server software for deployment of systems, installation maintenance and security are all expected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Three (3) years related experience with systems programming languages (C++, Java and Python), web technologies including database technologies (e.g., REST, SQL/NoSQL), GUI development, and with graphics technologies (OpenGL).
  • Two (2) years related experience with distributed systems and network communications.
  • Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows and with version control systems.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of development experience in software field.
  • Understanding of software engineering principles as applied to UAS Research.
  • Experience in aviation or UAS fields, in Q&A and Test, electrical engineering and hardware, and in systems engineering.
  • Experience with High Level Architecture (HLA) or Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS).
