Job Description Summary
The Senior System Administrator specifies server hardware and cloud computing technologies, and also establishes server and application configurations. The role designs system security, monitor security events, manages incident response procedures and manage virtual environments.

Develops/modifies VBS scripts for use across systems, manages MS SQL databases with best practice maintenance procedures, tracks storage trends and makes recommendations to application developers to optimize SQL queries.

Improves change management processes and researches next-generation cloud solutions. Manage imaging systems (Perceptive Content, Kofax, OnBase, etc.) with latest updates and patches. Implements interfaces among servers, plans operating system upgrade strategy, manages system performance in response to changing environment and usage patterns. Responds to problems with machine room facilities. Leads multiple server projects, serves as subject matter expert on multiple technologies, and mentors more junior staff.

Job Description
  • Meets directly with staff to gather requirements for server systems to specific server hardware/virtual/cloud, establishes server configuration and application configuration.
  • Develops scripts for use across systems, modifies and improves change management processes, and researches next-generation cloud solutions. Implements interfaces among servers, plans operating system upgrade strategy, implements data stores, and manages system performance in response to changing environment and usage patterns.
  • Manage MS SQL Databases with best practice maintenance procedures, track storage trends and make recommendations to application developers to optimize SQL queries.
  • Manage VMWare environment of VDI and VMWare servers and make recommendations to optimize performance and track growth; provide 2nd level support for VDI users
  • Plan, execute, and oversee departmental computing initiatives and projects
  • Manage Fortigate firewalls with best security practices. Policy and network modifications as needed.
  • Manage server infrastructure including modular chassis, blades, fiber switches, and SAN storage.
  • Participate in and shape organization-wide computing initiatives
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of back-end application and server infrastructure deployment and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The successful candidate will have strong writing/communications skills, and a solid command of common programming languages, user interfaces, integration methods, and development lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in systems analysis, design, and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies is required. Extended experience with Active Directory and Windows OS servers and workstations is also desired.
  • The ability to work independently with limited direct supervision in a self-motivated and self-directed manner required; ability to work as a member of a team required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in network and firewall administration (Fortinet preferred).
  • 5-7 years of Windows Server and SQL Server experience (2012-2019).
  • 5-7 years of Active Directory management experience.
  • 5-7 years of VMware experience.
  • 5-7 years of SAN storage experience.
  • 2-3 years of Cloud computing experience (AWS/Azure)
  • At least one of the following industry certifications is preferred: MCSA Server 2012 or above, Fortinet NSE certified Administrator, or VMware Certified.
  • VBS scripting experience preferred.
  • Proven network analysis and diagnostic skills, ability to implement quick and effective solutions to network problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server and VMware vSphere.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Successful at working in a team culture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and accurate. Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to work within tight and often conflicting deadlines. Must be flexible, show effective judgement, discretion and have the ability to handle confidential information technology matters.
  • Work effectively in a highly matrixed and decentralized environment with the ability to navigate through ambiguity and demonstrate appreciation and support for diversity, inclusion and belonging in a constantly evolving academic/higher education environment.
