Position Summary
Information Resources & Technology (IRT) partners with faculty, staff, and students to provide essential information technology services that support mission critical activities and innovative technology solutions that facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals. Under the supervision of the Director of IT Infrastructure & Identity, the position's primary role is to be responsible for the architecture, design and deployment of Scientific Computing's computational and data science ecosystem. This ecosystem includes high-performance computing (HPC) systems, research databases, and research network connectivity. This Research Computing Architect will work closely with Information Technology and Resources teams, and interdisciplinary research teams to design IT systems to support data acquisition, management, and analysis requirements, and support complex interdisciplinary projects within and across the university. The position will be responsible for the design and implementation of research environments (including: databases; compute and storage services; security and access controls; and account management processes) in coordination and collaboration with various IT service teams who are responsible for delivery of relevant services. The individual in this position is expected to maintain knowledge of new computing trends and technology, specifically including "as a service" offerings. Work hours: generally 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday and also after hours and on-call rotation required. All Information Technology and Resources employees should be familiar with the division's strategic plan, mission of the University, and University Strategic Plan.
FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime)

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,792

Hiring Range: $6,670 to $8,400 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm; after hours and on-call rotation required.

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in operating systems programs, maintenance, and systems administration features is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Operating Systems Analyst include a working knowledge of the assigned computer operating systems, systems analysis, and systems-level programming.

Required Qualifications
Education/Experience 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a relevant field or equivalent training and applied work experience. 2. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability to perform system and application administration at the career level including the skills required for installation, design, ongoing analysis, administration and operation of operating systems and related applications. 3. Demonstrated ability to perform critical core functions of the OSA career position including user consultation, project coordination and system administration. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 4. Demonstrated knowledge RedHat Enterprise Linux server, along with Ubuntu server. 5. Demonstrated experience with Linux scripting and programming languages (Bash, Perl, Python, SQL, JavaScript, PowerShell). 6. Demonstrated experience with current networking tools and protocols. 7. Demonstrated experience with performance monitoring software. 8. Demonstrated experience managing web servers; IIS, Apache and Tomcat. 9. Demonstrated experience applying IT security best practices, along with patch and vulnerability management. 10. Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines 11. Demonstrated experience working in higher education. Conditions of Employment Ability to successfully pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications
12. Demonstrated experience with planning, designing, building and operating a HPC cluster environment. 13. Demonstrated experience with cloud computing and services system design. 14. Experience with design and/or management of hybrid on-premise/cloud computing services. 15. Demonstrated knowledge of the research process, data lifecycle, and data workflows. 16. Demonstrated experience supporting data management and analysis in Python, R, Matlab, and/or Stata on Linux based systems. 17. Demonstrated experience executing workloads on scheduled HPC systems, interactive Linux systems and cloud-based platforms such as Databricks or Amazon EMR. 18. Demonstrated knowledge with authentication systems; CAS, Shibboleth, SAML. 19. Demonstrated experience with Ansible Linux configuration management tools. 20.
