Process Improvement Analyst

Penn State University IT has an exciting opportunity for a Process Improvement Analyst (Business Process Analyst). This position will ensure that initiatives and projects are properly supported through requirements gathering, stakeholder analysis, communication plans, risk assessments, process mapping, gap analysis, root cause analysis and project planning. This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring appropriate project rigor, on time solutions, and value delivery
  • Documenting definitions and attributes of processes using visual diagrams, process models, process maps, or other tools as appropriate
  • Designing new or improved business processes based on analysis; ensure improved quality, value, and efficiency
  • Maintaining familiarity with installed software standards and procedures
  • Creating wireframes, functional specifications, and technical specifications
  • Writing business cases/justifications, including financial modeling, budgeting and forecasting, total cost of ownership, return on investment, and variance analysis
  • Developing and implementing metrics/KPIs to ensure compliance and the ability to measure overall impacts on processes and organization
  • Developing and executing test plans, test scripts, and participating in testing and pilots to ensure desired results are achieved
  • Conducting team building and group facilitation, and preparing training materials
  • Conducting organizational analysis and make recommendations
  • Acting as an organizational change leader
  • Supporting, developing and/or delivering communications related to implementation of new business processes
  • Communicating in business and IT terms, effectively translating between business and IT resources
  • Generating and distributing reports and presentations to all levels within the organization
  • Understanding continuous improvement and managing subsequent changes to improved business processes
  • Analyzing existing processes in comparison with improved or proposed processes to identify gaps and/or necessary changes

    The successful candidate will have extensive analytical skills, including data/metrics, trends, decision making, organizational strategy, and research. Must have the ability to interpret and communicate process improvement activities, ability to solve problems creatively and effectively handle multiple projects or initiatives, and ability to develop effective business relationships and build consensus. Must have excellent communication and customer service skills including persuading, influencing, negotiating, and resolving disputes with a wide variety of stakeholders internal and external to the University. Attention to detail is a must.

    This job will be filled as a level 3 or level 4 depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is strongly preferred.
