Involved in the development of server / OS / desktop / mobile applications and services including researching, designing, developing specifications for designing, writing, modifying, testing, debugging, troubleshooting and maintaining source code. Also having direct or related involvement in designing related databases, user interfaces, integration to other systems / applications, content or multimedia processes. Work includes analysis and design to post-production processes, quality assurance, maintenance and documentation.

Under the general direction of the Library IT Manager, the Library Technologies Developer will play a key role in enhancing and optimizing the Library's enterprise systems, including Alma/Primo, Library WCMS (Drupal), EZproxy, and ancillary systems and applications, in order to enable quality services and efficient workflows and meet the needs of our diverse user community.

The Library Technologies Developer will be responsible for providing the programming and technical expertise needed for the development, integration, and support of a wide array of library systems, applications, and services. The incumbent will help analyze, design and implement library serving systems infrastructures and user interfaces; will adapt new and existing web tools to improve the library's front-end discovery and access applications and platforms, including the new library search and discovery system Primo; will explore new technologies to identify opportunities for effective application, including the potential integration with other university and library systems; and will develop custom library applications that enhance and create efficiencies within library operations for library patrons and back-end functions. The incumbent will also assist with all aspects of maintenance and administration of library services and applications; will provide technical assistance for all forms of information technology used by the library to meet its mission, goals, and objectives; and will participate in the development and assessment of a broad range of library technology initiatives and plans.

The University Library promotes the discovery of information and creation of knowledge and leads the University in disseminating and preserving scholarship for the benefit of humanity. The Information Technologies Team (Library ITS) assigned to the library is responsible for library core system infrastructure and the discovery services that support research, scholarship, teaching, and learning at the UCSC campus. The Library ITS team is a fierce advocate for and supporter of the University Library. The team has evolved to support the specialized needs and patron facing services of the library and works in partnership with central ITS professionals to ensure a high quality service delivery of centrally provided commodity services as well as leveraging central talent in support of library led strategic initiatives.

Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience working in a library and with library related services and work-flows.
  • Intermediate knowledge of secure software development.
  • Intermediate knowledge of three or more of the following technologies:
    - Javascript
    - Angular JS
    - PHP
    - jQuery
    - Ruby
    - Python
  • Intermediate experience with content management frameworks (i.e., Drupal).
