Job Description
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time tenure track position teaching Computer Science and Computer Information Systems courses within the Business, Economics, and Information Technology Department. The primary teaching assignment involves teaching computer science courses, which may include the introduction to computer science sequence, data structures and algorithms, computer organization, discrete structures, and programming in high-level languages such as C++ and Java. Additional professional expertise in mobile app, web, and/or game development is strongly desired. Responsibilities also include curriculum development, program planning, professional development activities, and participation in shared governance committees. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to balance professional practice with teaching and service to the college, in addition to initiative to take on a leadership role within the department and the college.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: teaching assigned courses in a manner consistent with academic professionalism, departmental standards and course outlines of record; maintaining office hours and advising students; performing duties related to program review, curriculum design and discipline planning and other affairs of the college, including service on committees.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • Salary range of $49,781.25 to $80,814.66 per year
  • 177 days of service
  • Family medical, dental, and vision overage and employee life insurance coverage (employee contribution varies depending on plan selected)
  • STRS retirement ((employee contributes 9.205% or 10.25% depending on current membership status)
  • CTA dues of $98.90 per month.

    WORK SCHEDULE
    Teaching duties may be during the day, evening, weekend or online.

Only transcripts showing the awarded minimum required degree or higher degree will be accepted. Transcripts must be legible. Transcripts must be from a US accredited institution. Transcripts from outside the US must include an official evaluation for equivalency. Copies of diplomas will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts if the position requires a degree.     Requirements
    EDUCATION
    Master's in computer science or computer engineering
    OR
    Bachelor's in either of the above
    AND
    Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business
    administration, accounting or engineering
    OR
    Bachelor's in engineering
    AND
    Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or
    business administration
    OR
    Bachelor's in mathematics
    AND
    Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or
    business administration
    OR
    Bachelor's degree in any of the above
    AND
    A master's degree in information science, computer
    information systems, or information systems
    OR the equivalent.

    EXPERIENCE
    Demonstrated sensitivity to, understanding of, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, religious, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    1.Two years of professional experience in computer information systems (which may include but not limited to: programming, software development, computer networking, information technology, computer applications).
    2.Educational preparation and professional experience in computer science, including but not necessarily limited to software development using programming languages such as C++, Java, and Python.
    3.Evidence of a minimum of one full year (or equivalent part-time) successful teaching experience in computer science courses at the postsecondary level.
    4.Professional expertise in at least one of the following areas: game design, web development, and/or mobile app development for Android or IOS.
    5.Evidence of innovation, scholarship, or leadership in the teaching and curriculum development of computer science and/or computer information systems courses.
    6.Experience in teaching using a variety of techniques, such as active learning, distance learning, innovative technologies, to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities of community college students.
    7.Strong commitment to professional development, service to the college and remaining current in the field of computer science and information technology.
    8.Desire and demonstrated ability to actively participate and take on leadership roles within the department, shared governance committees, and the college.
    9.Effective written communication skills and ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues, management and classified staff.
    10.Provide the hiring committee with a URL to an online portfolio showcasing professional software development work.
