Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience. Minimum of 3+ years of progressive direct experience in cybersecurity operation or implementation and support of cybersecurity applications on managed endpoints or other relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesProven experience with assessment, troubleshooting, analyzing logs and other attack artifacts in support of incident investigations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to partner and collaborate with security professionals, faculty, staff, vendors, students on security technologies and processes. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and within diverse teams. Knowledge of defense-in-depth principles and network security architecture and authentication and access management technologies.

Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
The Division of Information Technology is responsible for management and support of all aspects of the universitys computing and telecommunications systems. DoIT manages the campus data, voice and video network, wide-area and Internet connections, and central servers providing application, database, file, web and streaming media services. DoIT maintains and supports applications supporting instructional and research activities of faculty as well as student records, registration, housing, financial aid, recruitment and admissions, purchasing, accounts payable and receivable, human resources, and development. DoIT also maintains and supports business analysis and intelligence systems and participates in the collection and reporting of data to internal and external entities. In addition, DoIT offers coordinated support services to campus constituents in the use of campus technology. Support is offered through formalized training, problem resolution requests, and collaborative events and initiatives. Supported campus technologies include desktops, laptops, peripherals and projectors, computer labs and classroom technology. Finally, DoIT operates the Interactive Video Facility which provides teleconference and satellite communications services.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a member of the Infrastructure and Security team to focus on performing specific operational security tasks in support of the overall campus security solution. These tasks will focus heavily on the use of existing security tools and services and less so on the design and implementation of security tools, although this position would serve as a resource for recommendations in improving the universitys security posture. This position is housed within the team that performs the dual role of providing network connectivity and communications, and also provides network security through a rich suite of integrated security tools.

Job Description:
This position will focus on the application and operation of available security tools in support of the overall security strategy for UNCP. This position will collaborate closely with the networking specialist, IT security professional, systems team members, IT support staff, and other network team members to implement and operate a wide array of security tools to monitor network traffic, interdict malicious network traffic, prevent known security threats through network controls, endpoint software controls, email security products and other systems and tools focused on securing assets and protecting UNCP faculty, staff, and students systems and information contained on their systems. This position will perform or ensure a high level of vigilance in monitoring systems for alerts, categorizing and prioritizing identified threats based on risk and determining the most appropriate response or plan of action to address or mitigate the threats or intrusions. This role will be responsible for helping to keep security systems and tools updated and will participate in the installation and/or coordination of the installation of updates and patches. This person will implement technical policies and best practices configurations that leverage the most applicable features available. This position will collaborate with network and security team members to integrate system tools to leverage automation in containing security threats to improve efficiency and improve rapid response to known or suspected security issues. This position will work with the security team, the IT support team, and other appropriate DoIT team members in the mitigation of identified threats and compromised systems. They will work collaboratively as part of the technical incident response team pursuant to the overall IT security incident response plan.

This position is designated as Mandatory Personnel: Mandatory Employees: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.

Management Preference:
Experience with Cisco and Microsoft security products is preferred. Knowledge of email security, vulnerability management, endpoint management, and incident response is strongly preferred. Some knowledge of networking operation, management, and design is preferred. A strong passion for cybersecurity, networking, and threat hunting is preferred.
