We are currently seeking an experienced IT Project Manager for our Valhalla, NY office.

Position Overview:

This key position oversees project management activities for major Information Technology (IT) Projects, focused primarily on IT components of construction projects, new builds, and renovation projects, but occasionally works on system projects such as application development, upgrades, software installation, configuration, testing, and deployment. You will develop and implement common project management methodologies using best practices from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and other organizations and serve as the main point-of-contact for coordination of information technology planning efforts with University administrators and faculty.

The position impacts all areas of the University including the planning and implementation of information technology resources in all new and renovated facilities. The IT Project Manager will provide direction and leadership to individuals assigned to project teams in conducting activities related to all phases of project implementation ranging from feasibility and requirements phase through implementation, deployment, documentation, user training, and production turnover. This will include the scheduling, assignment, review of project work, scope change management, and scheduled updating.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and track key Information Technology projects as well as the IT Components of ongoing and future projects that involve any area of Information Technology within the University and its consortium.

  • Proactively collaborate with internal and external clients to fully understand information needs and functional requirements, and use this information to build a statement of work.

  • Recommend and work with internal and external technical consultants, designers, and engineers (e.g. A/V, network) as necessary.

  • Work with ITS Directors, Managers, and other staff to track progress in achieving project objectives.

  • Provide up-to-date information to ensure all relevant stakeholders are kept informed on progress.

  • Create and own a project schedule for each project, according to project management standards.

  • Become knowledgeable of the latest technologies relevant to present and future IT projects.

  • Works with PMO Manager to foster a culture of project management inside the organization.


The ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.

  • 1-2 years of experience in project management practices and procedures.

  • Experience with coordinating, designing, and developing specifications for AudioVisual, telecommunications (network, voice, CATV) structured cabling, and other related technology is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with vendors and coordinating construction and renovation projects is strongly preferred.

  • An understanding of technical concepts, principles, and IT terminology.

  • Exceptional interpersonal organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to gather and document customer requirements to build statement-of-work.

  • Higher Education experience is a plus.

  • Deep knowledge and experience with construction/renovation, audio/visual, and low-voltage/telecommunications projects are strongly preferred.
