Job Overview

Working within the central Digital Strategy team supporting Georgetown Main Campus graduate programs ("MarTech"), the Front-end WordPress Developer is responsible for ongoing web development, maintenance, ADA compliance adherence, user experience design, and search engine and site speed performance optimizations for the primary web properties related to Georgetown University graduate programs supported by the MarTech initiative. They work with stakeholders across 10 graduate programs and in close coordination with the MarTech marketing and digital team members to ensure that primary enrollment and academic objectives are successfully met.

The Front-end WordPress Developer takes raw program content and develops visual mockups following established themes, and then executes an efficient and user-friendly content structure within WordPress with front-end code (HTML/SCSS/jQuery) that is handwritten/lightweight, standards-compliant, accessible (we use SiteImprove to evaluate accessibility), mobile-first, responsive, cross-device/cross-browser compatible, highly-readable, and performance-oriented.

They are responsible for monitoring Google Analytics, SiteImprove, and other server and site performance tools as necessary to ensure that university ADA compliance standards and core website performance standards are maintained.

As well, they hold a critical position for MarTech as the content, user journeys, and SEO strategy of the websites must constantly evolve to stay competitive, and require high levels of sustained maintenance by skilled persons. The MarTech affiliated websites represent the hub for paid and earned media efforts, prospective student engagement, current student and faculty communications, and alumni community engagement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Programming, Information Technology, or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of professional work experience - preferably in website programming and digital marketing
  • At least 3 years of website development experience in a professional setting
  • Custom WordPress theme development (without the use of frameworks or starter themes)
  • Advanced knowledge of and proficiency in hand-writing standards-compliant, responsive HTML/CSS
  • Ability to leverage jQuery for UI/UX purposes with minimal reliance on pre-built scripts
  • Experience leveraging, adapting, and supporting pre-built WordPress themes and plugins
  • UX/UI design experience (ability to layout new content in visually appealing and user-friendly way)
  • Website performance analysis and optimization
  • Experience developing for ADA and WCAG Compliance
  • Experience using Google Analytics/Search Console, and SiteImprove as diagnostic tools for site performance
  • Fluent use of design software for web development such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Experience Designer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and techniques
  • Ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment, and independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational, project, and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace


Preferred qualifications (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience with support and troubleshooting, and the ability to quickly identify and solve problems for clients
  • Git
  • MySQL
  • General familiarity with Linux command-line tools
  • General familiarity with CRM software concepts and usage
  • Experience with Python / Django template development
