JOB SUMMARY

NOTE: It is negotiable for this position to work remotely up to 100%.

This position applies advanced database administration concepts and campus and / or multi-institutional goals to resolve highly complex issues of diverse scope where incumbent must assess business needs and technical considerations with minimal direction in order to complete database projects of advanced scope and complexity. Selects methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Implements database solutions from evaluation to implementation of large enterprise-level hardware and software.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $90,400 - $115,000/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES

50% -
  • Applies advanced concepts in working on highly complex projects including all aspects of enterprise-class database administration, including the direction of structured and unstructured content. Initiates, designs and communicates with senior level personnel regarding database administration studies, summary reports and background material including approaches, trends and sources. Interacts with teams of advanced IT professionals as a proactive member. Provides software consulting for database performance and design.

  • Implements database solutions from evaluation to implementation of large enterprise-level hardware and software. Formulates procedures and standards relating to database management.

20% -
  • Prepares and maintains highly complex technical documentation. Coordinates and trains IT colleagues in database implementation and operations.

10% -
  • Develops disaster recovery plans and tests, backup solutions and system security.

ITS Security Statement

Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced knowledge of database management systems and standards.
  • Experience with the current release of Oracle and one of each MySQL or MS SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of conceptual database design.
  • Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with moderately complex databases.
  • Knowledge relating to capacity planning and interface specifications.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making; problem identification and resolution; identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance through application configuration and programming techniques.
  • Has effective written / verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates reasoning and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, service orientation, active listening, effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Able to multitask and prioritize tasks. Ability to work independently on complex technical projects as well as on a team of technical professionals and relevant decision-makers.
  • Skills necessary to develop procedures and standards relating to database management systems.
  • Skills associated with implementing database enhancements that improve performance and reliability of the system at the software, hardware and operating system level.
  • Deep security skills for protecting the operating system, software, data and hardware. Technical skills to develop, implement and test disaster recovery functions using backup technologies.
  • Knowledge of application development principles and practices, including application lifecycle management. Knowledge of IT Security principles and practices, security modeling and technologies, scanning and audit functions, CIA (Confidentiality, integrity,, availability).
  • Knowledge of Information Technology security functions and practices.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledgeable about professional approaches and relevant standards and technology for the management of unstructured data such as text and images.
  • Knowledge of test software code in client server environment.
  • Broad knowledge of the IT environment.
  • Agile.
  • Lean / Six Sigma.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
