Under general supervision, the Computer Operator is responsible for all Data Center Operations activities and the successful completion of all computer operations applications and procedures in a multi-system computing facility during their currently assigned shift.

Activities include: monitoring IT infrastructure; the coordination, scheduling and preparation of programs and data for run submission; the reviewing of run results; the receipt of input and distribution of output; first-level problem determination and correction; and job logging and control as well as network system installs, updates and removal of network jacks in the computer room. The Computer Operator may work on a shift by themselves or on a shift with other operators.
