Job Description
EdPlus at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a motivated, self-directed Cloud Engineer to join our high-performing Solutions Engineering team. We are looking for a developer who is experienced in building cloud native applications to join our high-performing software engineering team. Primary responsibility will be to design and develop microservice architectures and associated middleware integration layers that broker communication between client facing applications and backend systems such as CRM, SIS, LMS and ERP applications. This position will work with Dreamscape Learning (DSL).

Essential Duties
  • Design, develop and support high quality technology services.
  • Direct communications with cross-functional teams about various engineering topics such as detailed design, APIs, etc.
  • Have technical discussion with team members to understand product scope.
  • Maintain technical currency and take advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Guide effective documentation and communication of engineering processes to both EdPlus engineers, student engineers and contractors.
  • Work on a collaborative, fast-paced team and with other experts across other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate skills with a variety of development methodologies and ability to adapt these to the needs of an organization using Agile processes.
  • Complete projects with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Adhere to software development lifecycle principles and standard methodologies.
  • Contribute to the larger IT community across the University.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.


Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related. 5 years web, graphic design and database including creating and updating table structures and views as well as CSS development; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualificiations
  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of RESTful web services, API design, microservice architecture, HTTP protocol, Javascript, JSON and NodeJS.
  • Experience with building decoupled, secure, resilient, serverless applications using cloud native technologies (AWS preferred - eg API Gateway, Lambda, Serverless Framework)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Databases, transactional processing and data persistence tooling (eg: SQL, DynamoDB, AWS Aurora, S3)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of federated authentication and authorization models including cloud security and access policies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of JWT and OAuth is desirable.
  • Experienced in DevOps processes including building, testing and deployment pipelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud methodologies including automation, orchestration and related tooling.
  • Experience in agile/Iterative software development lifecycle, including version control, issue and project tracking.
  • Experience in self-motivating and working in a dynamic environment.
  • Evidence of good verbal and nonverbal communication skills using problem-solving skills and build positive working relationships with cross-functional teams.


Working Environment
EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.
  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required.
