Job Overview

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of product / service development practices to resolve a wide range of issues. Ability to manage the development of products / services / enhancements of diverse scope, size, impact and budget. Demonstrates sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to design, financial, marketing, or administrative problems.

As a Product Manager, you will be customer-focused and serve as a liaison between UC Santa Cruz stakeholders and ITS technology teams. The person in this position maximizes the opportunity to accelerate the growth trajectory from best in class technology. The successful candidate must be fully apprised of advancements in the industry and will apply that knowledge in proposing solutions. This position will build, strengthen, maintain and/or repair campus and organizational relationships to allow a true partnership to enable us to increase our impact, speed, and agility. You will identify business and technical requirements, and develop the architecture that incrementally builds the ITS roadmap. You will develop technology solutions with the product team as a sponsor of the approved initiative. You will develop success metrics and monitor projects with full transparency.
 
As a Product Manager you will develop and communicate product priorities by collaboration and building consensus. You will coach, espouse, model and partner to ensure an attitude and approach of we are one team. A win for a product or portfolio of products is also measured in the impact on the overall user journey (across all organizational products). Awareness that we are all one team and the micro and macro user experience and journey are critical for success in this role.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $73,700 - $95,000/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties
20% - Develop partnerships with campus clients and stakeholders and act as their liaison with ITS and external service providers to assure high value and seamless delivery of products and services.  

20% - Collaborate with campus business partners to understand business requirements and priorities. Identify opportunities for new services or enhancements. Research solutions and evaluate new technologies and industry trends.

20% - Develop marketing and outreach activities to raise awareness of existing and new or improved products and services. Foster a campus user community of practice to maximize expertise in applying enterprise productivity tools to effectively address business process needs.

20% - Plan and execute launches of products, services or enhancements of diverse scope, size, impact, and budget. Assemble and lead cross-functional teams for assigned deliverables. Develop and apply ITS and campus processes and standards.

20% - Apply technical and analytical expertise to identify, evaluate and define complex systems scope, objectives, issues, and risks with an understanding of applicable business practices, systems and industry standards to meet end-user needs. Participate in cross-functional teams to address complex business or systems issues.

ITS Security Statement
Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Broad knowledge of product development concepts, practices, standards and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's need and the success of a desired product, service and enhancement.
  • Proven ability to research, collect and analyze information to use in determining product options or alternatives.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Strong oral communication skills to effectively convey and explain information.
  • Strong written communications skills to draft clear, concise documentation, reports and specifications.
  • Ability to lead, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among project team, internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making and identifying situations requiring escalation to management.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard productivity & collaboration software (e.g. Google drive, mail, and calendar).
