JOB SUMMARY

As a Business Analyst/Service Manager, you will be customer-focused and serve as a liaison between UC Santa Cruz business stakeholders and ITS technology teams. You will receive assignments in the form of objectives and goals and determine the process by which to meet goals.

As a Business Analyst you will develop and communicate enterprise business applications and/or service priorities through collaboration and building consensus. In conjunction with business/functional stakeholders, you will make recommendations for new or upgraded business systems, applications or services. In partnership with the business owner, you will identify business and technical requirements and propose the solutions that incrementally develops the ITS roadmap for specific systems. You will maximize the opportunity to accelerate the growth trajectory from best in class technology and should be apprised of advancements in the industry to apply that knowledge in proposing solutions. You will participate in developing solutions with a team of technical and business professionals, establish success metrics and manage projects with full transparency.

As a Service Manager for HR and Finance systems you will work with business partners to ensure configuration and end user access and functionality meets business requirements, troubleshooting issues where appropriate and work in partnership with others in the ITS division to resolve issues. You will provide both business and data analysis by having both a front-end as well back-end knowledge of an assigned set of systems/applications. You will ensure that testing of new or upgraded features meet business requirements and deployments adhere to standard practices.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $75,900 - $95,000/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES

40% - Operations and Service Management
  • Manages systems and services of moderate size comprising multiple, integrated systems in the areas of HR and Finance.
  • Applies technical expertise and business analysis concepts to identify, evaluate and define complex systems scope and objectives through research and fact finding combined with an understanding of applicable business practices, processes, systems and industry standards to meet end-user needs. 
  • Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, modify and support systems, software, databases, utilities and / or tools. Applies and manages complex security configurations
  • Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for approval of business process and procedural documentation. 
  • Recommends and implements changes in processes and procedures.
  • Negotiates with stakeholders on the creation of specifications. 
  • Supports service management and development processes for client-facing services as needed. 
  • Acts as primary liaison with campus stakeholders in prioritizing and scheduling feature releases through system upgrades, releases and product iterations for critical campus HR and Finance enterprise systems.
  • Identifies risks and responds accordingly. 
  • Provides priority setting and work flow analysis. 
  • Serves as an ambassador for our portfolio team, driving strategic thinking around our applications and services.

30% - Project Management
  • Plans, directs, and assures adherence to program and project schedules, work plans and performance requirements for critical enterprise systems and services to meet campus needs. 
  • Creates complex specifications for systems to meet end-user requirements. 
  • Gathers, analyzes, 
  • prepares and summarizes business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system and process logic issues as necessary. 
  • Documents complex software and processes. 
  • Creates project plans.
  • Provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing complex systems and procedures. 
  • Involved in developing complex user interface designs. Plans and executes unit integration and acceptance testing by performing complex testing of software to ensure proper operation and conformance to test plans. 
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to address complex business or systems issues.
  • Provides support to technical employees following established campus policies and management guidance to develop methods and procedures on new projects.

30% - Collaboration and Governance
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and governance groups to establish application and service roadmaps; review new and existing IT applications and service plans, and conduct customer research to support changing business needs. 
  • Interaction frequently requires the ability to gain the cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects and schedules.

ITS Security Statement

Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information
and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.
  • Broad knowledge of various areas of IT and of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function.
  • Knowledge necessary to design, troubleshoot operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Has solid knowledge of related principles and concepts to provide solutions to more complex and diverse information systems issues. Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data.
  • Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.
  • Previous ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning; i.e. Banner, PeopleSoft) experience.
  • Experience with writing SQL Queries, Business Objects (or similar reporting tool).
  • Product and/or Project Management Certification.
  • Lean 6 Sigma.
  • Agile or Scrum related certifications.
