Family frameworks that reflect a developmental, systems approach are presented to guide the student in understanding the primary health care needs of patients, families and systems in this context.
A holistic and comprehensive approach to the patient is emphasized with particular attention to identifying the health promotion, disease prevention needs as well as the management of common signs and symptoms that present in the primary care setting. Common health issues encountered in primary care are presented in a systems framework using clinical scenarios where students implement the process of clinical decision making and use critical thinking skills.
