Physical Security Systems (PSS) is a team within Information Technology Services. The PSS team works in close collaboration with University Police, and is responsible to provide guidance to the campus community on the appropriate use of security hardware and technology. The PSS team is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and operations of these systems.

Job Overview

Applies professional concepts: Analyzes and operates complex IT based Physical Security Systems (PSS). Understands Physical Security system configurations, components and dependencies. Understands IT system infrastructure and basic troubleshooting. Basic knowledge of physical security concepts and best practices.

Conducts daily checks to confirm the effective operation of campus security systems. Troubleshoots and promptly resolves issues or escalates as appropriate. This may include working directly with customers and vendors to identify and resolve issues with hardware and software. Adheres to professional customer service standards. Maintains open communications and focuses on the customer experience. Conducts site visits to inspect, maintain and repair security systems. 

Programs, manages, administers and operates in CCURE access control system, Genetec Video Management system and Omnilock system. Conducts break/fix and root cause analysis. Utilizes internal and external resources to make necessary repairs. Manages third party vendors that perform maintenance, repair and construction services. Maintains relationships with stakeholders to ensure systems are meeting customer needs. Provides analysis to the PSS Team on security system maintenance and repair.
 
Applies information technology and information security best practices, campus, state, OP and federal policies and procedures to resolve a variety of complex issues related to physical security of facilities.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $73,700 - $85,000/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES
30% -
  • Administers physical security systems and services. Adds and modifies user accounts, scheduled events, door components and clearances, etc. Performs system administration role including programing, management and troubleshooting. Monitors the ongoing performance, Identifies system vulnerabilities and proactively corrects issues. Provide professional customer service to the campus community. 

15% -
  • Conducts Break/Fix service calls to identify issues impacting the operation of physical security systems. Makes repairs personally, or works with internal and external resources to correct issues in a timely manner.

10% -
  • Conducts root cause analysis to identify underlying issues contributing to the failure of security system components. Performs testing to prove cause and effect. Plans and implements corrections to prevent future system failures.

  • Sets and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for security systems. Maintains spare parts inventory. Maintains Access Approver List. Maintains call down lists. Maintains Fire and Police access privileges.

5% -
  • Contributes to the roll out of new security systems. Defines access zones with stakeholders. Set up clearances and schedules approved by stakeholders. Imports user data. Interfaces with end-users to ensure they understand how the system works and they have appropriate credentials.

  • Uses ticketing system to track all break/fix issues with security systems. Works to ensure all issues are resolved appropriately and in a timely manner. Communicates with stakeholders on timeline and cost implications.

  • Installs software on PC and Mac based client computers.

  • Documents system operations, configurations, trouble history, root cause analysis.

  • Develops training materials and conducts training sessions with end users.

  • Logistical support of campus emergency services during events and/or Emergencies.

ITS Security Statement

Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic knowledge of physical security best practices.
  • Ability to analyze physical security systems and hardware to determine failure points and vulnerabilities. Ability to engage internal and external resources and/or vendors to correct deficiencies. Ability to work in a ticket system to track break/fix status.
  • Skills associated with programming and implementation of physical security systems. Specific knowledge of access control and video management systems.
  • Ability troubleshooting door hardware, security systems hardware, client software issues and application issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and troubleshoot software and hardware components.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Basic knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies. Demonstrated skill at administering security controls, permission and privileges in physical security applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize multiple assignments, and work in a complex dynamic environment with deadlines, shifting priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to write training and technical documentation in a clear and concise manner. Strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to follow project management workflow processes. Able to initiate, plan, execute, control, and to bring projects to closure. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
  • Experience in a customer service role. Understands and can articulate what it means to provide excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experienced with security systems administration. Working knowledge of database management systems and standards. Knowledge relating to database system design. Database querying and report skills working with moderately complex security systems.
  • Experience with Genetec Video Management System.
  • Experience with Omnilock/Wi-Q access control system.
  • Experience with Onity access control system.
  • Familiarity with logical data design and data import/export or data conversion. Demonstrated experience with database administration.
  • Familiarity with data governance issues and requirements.
  • Basic Knowledge of CPTED principles.
  • ASIS Security Certification (PSP/CPP).
  • Software House CCURE 9000 System Manager Certification.
  • Software House CCURE 9000 Advanced System Manager Certification.
  • Software House CCURE 9000 Integrator/Installer Certification.
  • Genetec Omnicast Certification.
  • Agile.
  • Lean/Six Sigma.

Special Conditions
