Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno, Office of Information Technology seeks experienced candidates for the Lead High Performance Computing (HPC) and Research Computing Engineer position to advance, architect, and manage the HPC and related research technology ecosystem at our Carnegie R1 University. This position reports to the Director of Cyberinfrastructure and the Chief Information Officer.

The Lead HPC and Research Computing Engineer works with the Cyberinfrastructure Director to realize institutional strategic objectives, collaborating with faculty committees and other IT personnel to provide and evolve technology services that enable advanced research at the University.

The Lead is responsible for leading design, implementation, and support of the University's central research computing infrastructure. This includes HPC clusters, interactive computing hosts, large-scale storage systems, advanced networks, and associated management and monitoring infrastructure.

The successful candidate will align systems design, workflows, and team effort to maximize research outcomes and user experience across a wide range of science and engineering domains.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related work experience, OR

Master's degree and two (2) years of related work experience.

Related Experience: Linux/UNIX systems administration, software infrastructure, DevOps, high-performance networks, Active Directory, access security, hardware administration, database systems, parallel file systems, academic research support, direct engagement with students and research faculty, leadership role, project management, distributed memory clusters and/or other high-performance computing platforms or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting researchers in an academic, government, or industry environment.

Compensation Grade

The typical salary range for this position is $100,000-$115,000

Salary is based on related education and experience, internal equity and budgets.
