The IT Systems Administrator focuses on providing end-user workstation, application, and system support for assigned units or infrastructure within the Department. This role will be primarily supporting and troubleshooting IT systems, performing system administration, providing strong customer service, and completing assigned projects and tasks. This position reports to the Infrastructure Manager within the ITS Department of Facilities and Services.

Duties & Responsibilities -

Customer Service and Support

IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Delivering excellent customer service by responding to requests in person, on the phone, or via email in a timely, polite, and professional manner.

  • Working on a team of IT professionals supporting the IT instructional, research, or infrastructure needs of the Department.

  • Working with units, teams, and individuals to provide the unique technological needs for their instructional, research, or infrastructure environment.

  • Working to build relationships with customer community by proactively communicating relevant information and discussing their needs, initiatives, and service levels through periodic meetings.

  • Working to resolve customer satisfaction issues.


Senior IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Promoting and delivering excellent customer service by responding to requests in person, on the phone, or via email in a timely, polite, and professional manner.

  • Setting and manage the expectations of customers and resolve customer satisfaction issues.

  • Acting as an advocate for ITS clients in service planning and deployment of new IT services.


Lead IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Leading, driving, and delivering excellent customer service by responding to requests in a timely, polite, and professional manner.

  • Build relationships with stakeholders by proactively communicating relevant information and discussing their needs, initiatives, and service levels through periodic meetings.

  • Create expectations of service levels for IT related services

  • Sponsor and promote IT service improvements.


System and Network Support

IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Installing and configuring IT services.

  • Maintaining patching, security, and other endpoint management functions of IT servers and workstations.

  • Analyzing functional and performance issues associated with use of technology, collaborate with peers on possible solutions and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.

  • Consulting with customers on installation and use of software applications, including interfaces with network connections and optimizing systems for best performance.

  • Supporting networking for IT systems to allow network connectivity and access to network resources.

  • Providing hardware quotes for purchasing and consultation.


Senior IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Designing, installing and configuring IT services.

  • Planning and maintaining patching, security, and other endpoint management functions of IT servers and workstations.

  • Analyzing functional and performance issues associated with use of technology, collaborate with peers on possible solutions and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.

  • Designing and implementing networking for IT systems to allow network connectivity and access to network resources.

  • Planning and implementing major system upgrades and refreshes, including acquisition of new hardware, applications, and licensing need.


Lead IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Designing, deploying and managing improved IT Services.

  • Review, deploy, and maintain security, and other IT service management functions.

  • Designing functional and performance solutions with the use of technology, collaborate with peers on possible solutions and deploy solutions in a timely manner.

  • Design, and implement IT systems that encourage CICD solutions.


Service Management

IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Analyzing functional and performance issues with IT systems and service environments, and working with peers and senior staff on possible solutions.

  • Maintaining core service technology in infrastructure, research, or instructional systems, including service oversight and ownership as needed.


Senior IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Proactively identifying and analyzing functional and performance issues with IT systems and service environments, giving advice to peers and management on possible solutions, and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner.


Lead IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Architect IT systems and solutions and give advice to peers and management on possible solutions, and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner.


Project and Task Delivery

IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Managing projects at the divisional or team level and drive deliverables and results by designated deadlines.

  • Completing individual projects and tasks assigned by supervisor on time with quality.


Senior IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Actively seeking out and delivering solutions to unresolved problems inside and outside of the organization.


Lead IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Research and develop project solutions that drive team level performance improvement.

  • Provides technical leadership for projects assigned by supervisor on time and with quality.

  • Research system delivery solutions to help solve unresolved problems inside and outside of the organization.


Organizational Support

IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Interacting with various teams within Facilities and Services to ensure outstanding service delivery to customers.

  • Implementing centralized services where practical and align them to the unique needs of unit or customers.

  • Working within cross-functional teams, with limited authority for final decision making.

  • Participating in the support and maintenance of the managed server IT environment.

  • As needed, supervising student/hourly employees, including the assignment of tasks, performance management, etc.; may also serve as a mentor/coach to junior staff.


Senior IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Promoting use of and implementing centralized services where practical and align them to the unique needs of unit or customers.

  • Leading and working within cross-functional teams.

  • Planning and participating in the support and maintenance of the managed server environment.

  • Acting as a technical and institutional resource for other IT Specialists, providing training and advice as needed.


Lead IT Systems Administrator includes the following duties:

  • Monitor various IT systems within Facilities and Services to ensure outstanding service delivery to customers.

  • Design centralized services where practical and align them to the unique needs of unit or customers.

  • Lead initiatives and work with cross-functional teams.

  • Design solutions that support the maintenance of the IT system environment.

  • Lead technical team members by providing training and advice as needed.


Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Four (4) years of work experience in IT related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. Six (6) years at the Senior level, and eight (8) years of experience at the Lead level required.

  • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).

  • Demonstrated experience at IT system Administrator Level: working in a customer service environment. Experience troubleshooting and supporting common IT Systems.

  • Demonstrated experience at Senior level: experience working in a customer service environment. Experience using technology tools to optimize delivery of IT services. Experience designing and supporting common IT Systems.

  • Demonstrated experience at Lead level: experience leading an IT system environment. Experience deploying technology tools to optimize delivery of IT services.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience scripting or programing in at least one format or language (Entry level).

  • Experience diagnosing IT problems and essential IT services, such as performance issues (Senior level).

  • Microsoft certified solutions expert or equivalent (Lead level).


Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 2/19/2024. The minimum salary for this position is $76,500 and may scale upward dependent on level of qualification.
