Director of Web and Mobile Operations

Position Summary
The Director of Web and Mobile Operations (WMO) is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities associated with the architecture, technical infrastructure, and proper use of the university's website, portal framework, and the UIW Mobile App.

The Director is responsible for developing, communicating, and implementing strategies concerned with various mobile architectures and setting standards of use. They will be recognized for the highest level of technical expertise in web development and will have a thorough understanding of a wide range of web disciplines.

Content curation is decentralized throughout the university environment with responsibility for published content placed at the school or department level. The Director acts in a consulting role to the Office of Communication & Marketing, Enrollment Services, other administrative areas, and all academic programs, to assist with useful web technologies that will facilitate their communication and marketing strategy and goals.

The Director of WMO works closely with other IT directors on technical architecture and infrastructure requirements. The Director sits on the Information Technology leadership team, reporting to the Associate Vice President/CIO.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Expert knowledge of technologies used in web development, mobile application platforms, and portal technologies.

Expert knowledge of web content management system capabilities, features, best-practice use, and standards of operation.

Technical knowledge of current web technologies, such as XML, CSS, HTML, HTTP, HTTPS, WordPress, PHP, Java, Javascript.

Strong foundational knowledge of content management systems.

Solid understanding of best practice web design and navigation.

Ability to communicate at all levels of the academic community.

Must possess strong organizational, communication, and detail-oriented skills.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Bachelors Degree in Web Development, Web Design, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.


Required Work Experience
Five years of increasing responsibility in management and maintenance of web, mobile, and/or portal technologies.


Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Web Development, Web Design, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

Five years of experience in a higher education technology management position.

Three years of management experience, including budget and supervision of personnel.

Work Hours
This position follows a typical workweek of M-F from 8 AM to 5 PM. Some work during nights, weekends, and other non-standard times may be required to meet the operational needs of the University. This position qualifies for a remote work arrangement. As a result, qualified candidates do not need to live in the San Antonio, TX area. Candidates from out the area may be required to visit the campus periodically. Campus visits would be limited in duration and coordinated well in advance.
