Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a Director, Research Computing to oversee and lead the institution's complex and cutting-edge research technology programs. This senior leadership role will be responsible for the University's major, complex research technology support program for initiatives in areas including but not limited to data management, advanced analytics, cloud computing, high performance computing, visualization, and advanced networking. The position will guide and enable computational and academic data-intensive research across the university. The Director reports to the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.

In this capacity, the Director elevates academic research through computational algorithms and analysis to determine, formulate, and effectuate the methods for the University to support, enhance and increase research funding received by the University. This role requires substantial personal interaction, planning and collaboration with academic and technical leaders at the University. The Director, Research Computing also collaborates with external stakeholders including private sector collaborators and federal agency officials in Nevada and Washington, D.C in order to increase research funding received for our academic units.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in technology discipline and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR

Doctorate degree in technology discipline and two (2) years of related professional work experience

Related Experience:

ln a professional information technology enterprise environment with responsibilities for the application and support of advanced cyberinfrastructure for research and innovation.

Experience being a PI or have assisted a PI's in accomplishing their research using computational means.

Proven track record in conceiving, developing and executing significant extramural proposals and projects in advanced cyberinfrastructure in collaboration with researchers.

An established record of accomplishments demonstrated by engagement with researchers and users as well as experience with managing, operating and delivering research cyberinfrastructure services.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Department Information

Office of Information Technology department provides computing, software, and communications support services to students, faculty, and staff throughout the University.

The department manages and supports software development, applications support and data warehousing, network services, and server support and management. The goal of the organization is to assist departments and colleges in automating any administrative or academic process within the University that can benefit from automation and thereby improve the efficiency and accuracy of University operations.
