Position Description
Information Technology Services (ITS) has an exciting opportunity for an Application Engineer to join our community and play a key role in standing up a new dynamic technology platform to serve our students. The Application Engineer will be our technical lead as we design, implement, and support Slate for Student Success as a core component of our institutional efforts to improve student retention and enhance the student experience (see Goal 3 of Seattle University's Reigniting Our Strategic Directions 2022-27 plan).

Reporting to the Director of Application Services, the Application Engineer will work with ITS team members and campus partners to establish and implement best practices with regards to system configuration, development, and maintenance, as well as data integrations with other university systems. As with all ITS roles at Seattle University, we are seeking a candidate with a leadership mindset who enjoys working in an energetic, collaborative environment to assess needs, troubleshoot issues, and deliver solutions.

Specifically, the Application Engineer will:
  • Facilitate the technical design, implementation, and maintenance of the Student Success CRM running on Slate from Technolutions.
  • Develop and support CRM automation, report writing, query building (utilizing strong knowledge of configurable joins), import creation, training, troubleshooting, and upgrades of systems/platforms.
  • Manage processes for data integrations, data integrity, application management, and quality control.
  • Create and manage communication campaigns, mailers, interactions, workflows, and related Slate properties to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Provide training on use of the CRM, including as new features and functions are deployed, and develop training materials as needed.
  • Create and maintain documentation on system guidelines and procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable on university processes to better understand and meet the needs of offices utilizing the system as related to reports, communication flows, and historical data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 
  • Knowledge and experience with web development, including proficiency with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
  • Experience in administration of cloud-based/SaaS applications.
  • Experience working with databases, including writing complex queries using SQL and strong understanding of referential integrity, etc.
  • Experience training users on technology system functions and business processes.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and the ability to organize, analyze, prioritize, and problem-solve within a fast-paced environment. 
  • Attention to detail, general flexibility, and the ability to ensure adherence to project requirements and timelines. 
  • Excited about technology and its impact, keeping abreast of industry trends and learning and adapting skillset quickly and accordingly.
  • All positions at Seattle University require a criminal history background check.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous administration of a CRM. Experience administering Slate highly preferred.
  • Experience designing, building, managing databases and data-driven applications.
  • Experience working in higher education.

    Compensation at a Glance:
    Salary Range: $69,500 to $86,600

    Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
