Job Overview

The AWS/UCPath Application Administrator is responsible for supporting AWS hosted applications, with a focus on UCPath related implementations. This position works closely with Information Technology Services (ITS) staff and vendors to provide technical support for the administration and development of these applications. 

Assignments include supporting creation and monitoring of Interfaces to Institutional systems, designing and implementing application level security, and performing release management functions. Additional skills preferred for this position are a background that includes the understanding and usage of AWS development tools for the development of AWS Cloud based infrastructure and application solutions for a University environment, along with Mulesoft or other ESBs. A strong background in DevOps is highly desired.

This position uses both technical project management skills and advanced applications programming methods to meet business objectives and resolve highly complex issues.  The person in this role works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.  You will exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  This position meets regularly with functional and technical leads to plan and implement application releases and manage operational work.

Job Duties
20% -
  • Initiates and designs conversion/upgrade and system implementation plans or participates in developing portions of plans.

15% -
  • Analyzes, installs, modifies and supports third-party supplied modules, middleware, developer tools, and third party infrastructure and utilities software.  
  • May lead a team of application administrators.

    10% -
    • Applies advanced IT concepts to perform highly complex technical functions  in multiple IT areas of specialization, working with systems administrators, Database Administrators, network administrators and application programmers.

    10% - 
    • Provides operational support for assigned applications, module extensions, tools and services. 
    • Assists in troubleshooting problems between assigned applications and other software systems by working with the greater ITS technical team.

    10% -

    • Performs advanced configuration, coding and tests/debugs complex programs.

    • Utilizes ITS standard practices, including Portfolio and Project Management, Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC),and Change Management methodologies. 
    • Utilizes software version control, release and configuration management practices to ensure security of systems.

    5% - 
    • Maintains security configurations. Participates in periodic vulnerability assessments and audits, including identification of strategies to mitigate threat exposure and breach response.

    • Maintains and supports web servers, development environment, system backups and resources.

    • Analyzes complex problems or formulates logic for new systems.


    ITS Security Statement
    • Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Knowledge of application development technologies, development tools and/or protocols: 
      • AWS: Cloudformation, VPC, EC2, OpsWorks, Chef, S3 Storage, IAM, Route53
      • Languages: Bash command language, PL\SQL
      • Tools: Control-M Mulesoft, ServiceNow, Git, Jenkins
      • Advanced Linux shell scripting
      • Operating Systems: Linux, Windows
      • Security: SSL and SSH key generation and use, PGP key generation and use, web application security, certificate management
    • Experience supporting vendor delivered software, upgrades, patching, and configuration management.
    • Strong operational experience in supporting day-to-day production/development issues.
    • Self-starter that likes to tackle hard/complex problems and identify root cause.
    • Experience handling mission critical 24/7 production environments.
    • Requires advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation.
    • Ability to communicate effectively across the organization at multiple levels both verbally and written.
    • Solid ability to gather, organize and analyze data in completion of assignments.
    • Ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Requires problem solving skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of an experience with structured and ad hoc testing methodologies, applying test automation to verify implementation.
    • Knowledge of Information Technology security functions and practices.
