Job Description:

The Computing Disciplines of the Applied Engineering Technology Department at Onondaga Community College is accepting applications for adjunct instructors to teach computing courses (Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, & Cybersecurity). The highest need areas will require the adjunct to teach programming courses, data structures, and how those are utilized in modern software engineering. Additional areas of need include teaching courses for our Cybersecurity program, Information Systems/Information Technology and web technologies. While the highest need is for daytime instruction, applicants for teaching at night will also be considered.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach between 3 to 11 contact hours per term in college-level teaching of computing courses or cybersecurity courses to include:

  • Prepare and present lectures.
  • Meet with students as needed to answer questions.
  • Respond to student queries (e.g. email or voice mail) as needed, in a reasonably timely manner.
  • Write, administer, and grade all student assignments and exams.
  • Compute grades and submit them on time.
  • Maintenance of student records.

Participate in a 2-hour orientation and additional training workshops throughout the term


Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalency in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, or a closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong candidates will have some experience teaching at the community college level and working with diverse populations of students, especially underrepresented students.
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English. English and another language will be considered.
  • Professional employment experience in the field is also desired


Additional Information:

  • Adjunct rate of pay for the 25/26 academic year is $1,483/credit hour. Classes will be assigned on an as needed basis dependent upon enrollment.
  • Adjuncts are eligible to participate in the NYS Teacher's Retirement System.
