The Board of Trustees of Internet2 seeks a strategic and visionary leader as its next president and chief executive officer. Nominations, inquiries, and applications are invited.

An advanced technology community founded in 1996 by the nation's leading higher education institutions, Internet2 provides a collaborative environment for U.S. research and education organizations to solve shared technology challenges and develop innovative solutions supporting their research, educational, and community service missions. Internet2 operates the nation's largest and fastest coast-to-coast research and education network, serving 337 U.S. universities, 34 government agencies, 46 regional and state education networks, 61 leading corporations, and more than 93,000 community anchor institutions through its network and regional connectors. Internet2 also works with more than 65 international and national research and education networking partners and trust federations representing more than 100 countries.

Throughout its 29-year history, Internet2 has proudly served as a facilitator of collaboration across diverse research communities in order to encourage and catalyze transformational innovation and accelerate discovery. A member-driven, 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Internet2 has at the core of its mission – and the reason that the organization was brought into existence and remains seen as vitally important today and into the foreseeable future – the need for U.S. higher education institutions to work together to design and provide mission-critical services to advance all aspects of their academic, research, and service missions. These are services that no single institution could provide on its own and that no one other than the academic community itself will provide.

Internet2 seeks a dynamic leader able to engage its many constituencies in fostering the innovation, collaboration, and scientific discovery that have become the cornerstone of the organization and helped to revolutionize the national and international research and learning environment. Reporting to the board of trustees, the president and CEO is entrusted with overall executive responsibility for Internet2 including working with the membership to develop a compelling vision for the future of the organization and then partnering with staff to execute that vision. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership and management experience along with stature in the technology field, a thorough understanding of academic research, and skill as a communicator and relationship and community builder. With the CEO transition occurring in a period of significant change for higher education, research, and technology sectors, the ideal candidate will also be a leader who is able to embrace, thrive, and execute while ensuring community stability.
